Colon Detoxification

Although many people are catching on to the trend of eating healthy, they have not always been so aware of the unwholesome things they were putting in their body. Foods high in fat and filled with artificial preservatives and refined sugars such as fast food, frozen pizza, and prepackaged foods have always been the quickest and easiest foods to eat. Not only has eating these foods caused many people to be overweight it has also added to an underlying problem. These unhealthy eating habits can be very detrimental to your colon.

Unbeknownst to them, many Americans are living with anywhere from 8 to 10 pounds of undigested fecal matter clogging their colon. Because of unhealthy eating habits the colon is forced to defend itself by creating mucus and sludge. As this mucus builds up on the walls of the colon it becomes difficult to get rid of it and can lead to problems such as constipation, gas and bloating, and even colon cancer. The best way to get rid of this mucus problem is with a colon detoxification.

A successful colon detoxification can not be done overnight but requires some lifestyle changes along with some procedures to help cleanse the colon. The first part of the colon detoxification process is to partake in a diet that is high in fiber. Foods that contain lots of sugar and preservatives should be eliminated while raw fruits and vegetables should be eaten more frequently. High fiber diets aide in detoxification by helping to rid the colon of the mucus and sludge and keep it that way.

After making a change to eating healthier, the next step in ridding your colon of toxins is to use one of the several colon detoxification processes. Several of these options only need to be done a couple of times to cleanse the colon and then maintain with a healthy diet. Some of them need to be done for a longer amount of time since they do cleanse as intensely.

One of the colon detoxification options is an enema. This method is effective in cleansing the colon but can also be very uncomfortable. A colon enema includes forcing water into the rectum, holding it there, and then releasing it along with the built up sludge and toxins from the walls of your colon. It can be unpleasant and usually is not the first choice for colon detoxification.

A second colon detoxification method is colon hydrotherapy. Very similar to the enema it involves forcing water into the rectum and then releasing the waste down a board that leads directly to the sewage line. Colon hydrotherapy is generally performed by a certified colon therapist or professional.

Colon enemas and hydrotherapy can be very effective forms of colon detoxification but can also be uncomfortable and intrusive. Some people choose to do more natural forms of colon detoxification such as taking herbal supplements. Herbal supplements tend to be safer and just as effective as other processes and are easy to do by simply taking a capsule or powder mixed into water or another liquid. One needs to be careful however that they are taking a laxative masked as an herbal supplement. Laxatives help with eliminating digested food, but do not help clean out the built up waste.

When starting a colon detoxification process you need to choose the method best suited for you. However along with detoxification you also need to remember to change your diet and lifestyle to maintain the healthy colon you desire.
